Peanut Line Trail (Amherst) Description

The Amherst segment of the Peanut Line Trail continues west from Transit Rd, where it connects with the paved section included in the Clarence Pathways trail system. Following the corridor of New York Central’s (NYC’s) Batavia Line, also known as the Peanut Line because of its relative insignificance in NYC’s railroad empire, the trail is sheltered from the nearby residential areas by trees. The unpaved path is mostly flat, grassy, and runs in a straight line. The trail crosses over a creek that currently doesn't have a bridge, but there is a detour onto the nearby road or depending on the water level and your comfort level, it may be possible to use stones to hop across. In order to use the detour when heading east, turn onto E Pinelake as it crosses the trail. On E Pinelake, it's possible to head either north (and then turn onto Casey Rd) or south (and then turn onto Pino Verde). Follow either route to Youngs Rd and then rejoin the trail off Youngs.

There are on-going efforts to get the Town of Amherst to revitalize the trail and turn it into an established paved multi-use pedestrian/bike trail.
